Is this a higher end printer to the Canon Pixma Pro9500? How would you compare these?

Thanks

I have not received a test unit yet, but I have done a number of prints on a shipping 3880. In most images, I saw little difference between the 3800 and 3880. However, there were a couple of prints where the wider gamut of the Vivid Magenta inks gave a bit more color.

Print speed seemed about the same, although I didn't run any time tests.

Have you had a chance to test a unit and comment about quality of the images? I am looking to start printing and home and want the lab quality without buying a dye sub printer (if possible).

Jazz: its not really meaningful to compare the Cannon Pixma Pro Mark II because it only prints to 13x19. While the Epson 3880 and 3800 can print up to 17x22.

A better comparison is the Epson Stylus Photo R1900 Ink Jet Printer which is also a 13x19. As how it does compare I do not know.

On costing out jobs, Epson provides an application with the 3800 that tells you exactly how much ink was used on each job, which helps calculate the ink costs (and you can use your per-sheet costs to get a total cost per page).

The 3880 will use Epson's new Web-based system, myEpsonPrinter.com. Unfortunately, that's still in beta, so it's hard to get a good sense of how good it will ultimately be.

I would imagine that Epson will have compatible drivers for SL by the end of September, which was when SL was originally supposed to ship.

I know they've been working on entirely new drivers for the Mac, and I bet that SL was part of the impetus there.

If the Epson 3800 was such an important product for Epson, why didn't they bother to create a driver for"Snow Leopard"?

Can you provide a cost analysis of these printers or perhaps point to a site that has them? I am setting up a studio that needs to print constantly for clients and not sure how to calculate these things.

Thanks.
