I've had the z3100 for over a year and have had one problem after another - I've had over 50 hours of tech support and am frustrated and exhausted. My belt hasn't gone yet, but...

I sure would love it if someone had a RELIABLE printer they could recommend that is capable of 24" printing, and that does not waste black ink when switching from Matte to Glossy.

Thanks!

The photo prints on my HP c7280 are vastly inferior to the same images using the same paper on my cheaper and older Canon pixma i5000. The HP prints lack detail as the colours are very flat and muddy. Its an OK all in one printer for basic office tasks, but is definitely not a photo printer.

I have a new 27" iMac, an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and Adobe Design Suite CS5. Before I bought the Mac I had a PC and although the printer worked great it now prints everything too dark. I have spoken to Apple, Adobe and Epson and calibrated the monitor and downloaded the new driver and nothing seems to work. I am a graphic designer and photographer and need to have my work print as close as possible to what I am seeing on the screen. Would purchasing a R2880 be a solution? Do you have any other suggestions?

z3100 faulty belts
Before considering buying an HP printer please be warned that the belts that they use are faulty.

Whether this is planned obsolescence or simply HP using junk parts, I have tried contacting HP to let them know about it and find out what they could do..... of course....nothing but ignore my correspondence.

It's very "curious" that the belt, although an inexpensive part, is the most difficult on the printer to replace. You literally have to take the entire printer apart to get at it. That the belt only lasts just over one year and is likely to disintegrate right after your warranty expires. You will first notice little black pieces appearing on your prints, which is the belt falling apart little by little.

You can attempt to replace the belt, but you will need approximately 8 to 12 hours and take the risk of breaking something else in the process.

My first belt "EXPIRED" one week after my warranty did. My business was down for two weeks while I found the belt and did the repair. Luckily everything went well.....for another year, and now the belt is disintegrating again. My friend also has the machine and exactly the same thing happened to his belt.

Please let me know if you've had the same experience, I'm sure there must be many of us SUCKERS out there.

My HP photosmart pro B8850 tells me that the ink cartridges are low and eventually empty at which stage it refuses to print until I renew the appropriate cartridge. Because of the pattern of useage (e.g. not having printed many coloured photos or documents) I'm convinced that the cartridges are often not empty. How do I convince the printer to carry on printing until the cartridge really is empty?

I am glad to hear (Above) that the ink has no "use by" issues once installed in the printer... I liked the larger format capability of the 3880 - but ended up w a 2880 since I read that the 3880 makes you replace the ink cartridges every 6 months - and I thought that would be a large expense in my low volume use..
thanks for the info that the ink cartridges can stay in the printer for a long time without the printer demanding they be replaced prior to their consumption.

I want to second Margaret Price's request. I am looking for the same thing and after spending hours reading reviews and going back and forth, confusion is the result.

I produce small quantity runs of high end, marketing materials that combine photos and PRR images with text. I find large format post cards effective and want to mail merge address information.

We are opening a new office and need to purchase a replacement inkjet photo printer. Our business is that of selling high-end antiques and custom furniture. Our merchandise is expensive, and as we receive a number of long distance inquiries, we send photographs to prospects that we want to be excellent in quality, accurate in color and extremely impressive. We print on average around 50-60 photos per month. They are always full color 8.5 x 11 images from high-resolution originals, and we print on Kirkland brand glossy photo paper. We never print matte finish or in black and white. Is the R2880 the best choice for us, or would the R1900 give us nearly identical results? Or - are there any suggestions among HP or Canon options that might suit or purposes even better?

Great help here! Thanks Rick!
hope you can help me too.
I've got a very strange problem with my 1900. Since my first test print i get a very stange mark (about 1.5cm wide and 6cm long) in the top left corner of every print. it's always in the same place of the paper, not the printer. So weather i print on A6 or A3+ it's the same.
I thought it was a mechanical and tried feeding the paper through the roll feeder, which actually got rid of it, but isn't good for small prints. besides i want my printer to work properly. It's brand new.
I usually use Fuji Hunt Satin, but tried other semigloss papers too. I print from CS3 on an i Mac running OSX 10.4.11. I also tried printing from other software to rule PS out as a reason. Same problem.
The last thing I just tried was using original epson paper. Just had heavyweight matte so set the printer profile(before printing in PS) to epson matte heavyweight and what a surprise, I get the same line going vertically now!
Just leaves me with the conclusion, that it must be a software issue.
To double check I printed on the old semigloss paper, using the matte profile and ended up with the same effect as on the matte paper (well almost the same, it's not as visable...)
Basicially I'm lost!
Oh and to make the whole thing even more peculiar: I took the printer back to the shop and had it replaced, just to get the same thing with the new one!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Alex
