Monday, May 26th, 2008

Epson today announced the Stylus Photo R2880, the long-awaited replacement to the Stylus Photo R2400. The $800 printer, slated to ship in June, is a B-size (13") inkjet that uses pigment-based inks, including two light-density black inks designed to produce optimal black-and-white prints on all types of media. And, while the R2880’s pedigree shows a [...]

HP Photosmart Pro B8850 review

Monday, April 21st, 2008

In mid-2006, HP entered the archival printing market in earnest with the Photosmart Pro B9180, the company’s first fully pigment-based printer. The B9180 produced great prints in both color and black and white and had a number of innovative features, including a smart mechanism for adding third-party paper types directly into the print driver. While [...]

Epson Stylus Photo R1900 review

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

Epson’s Stylus Photo R1900, which was announced in January to quite a bit of fanfare, is now readily available (Amazon link). We’ve been working with a shipping unit in the Printerville labs for about a month now, and overall, we have been quite impressed with this $550 photo inkjet.

Stylus Photo R1900 speed test results

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

We received our Stylus Photo R1900 recently, and have been quite busy testing Epson’s new pigment-based photo printer. We should have a full review online in the next week or so, but overall, we’ve been quite impressed with the R1900’s output. The glossy prints are as beautiful as we’ve ever seen from a pigment printer, [...]

First look: Photosmart Pro B8850

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

b8850-small.pngHewlett-Packard’s recently announced Photosmart Pro B8850 is a $549, B-size (13" by 19") inkjet printer designed for amateur photographers who want the advantages of pigment inks, advanced black-and-white printing, and a larger print size, but who also aren’t sure they want the full throttle of a 17-inch powerhouse like Epson’s Stylus Pro 3800.

We’ve been playing with a final-release sample of the B8850 for a few weeks now, and have been quite impressed with the overall performance of the printer. Based on our initial tests, we think this will be a formidable player at the low end of the pro photo printer market.

We’re only two weeks into the new year, and already, 2008 is shaping up to be a big one for photo printers. Today, Hewlett-Packard is announcing the Photosmart Pro B8850, a B-size printer similarly designed for [...]

Epson announces Stylus Photo R1900

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

Epson today announced the Stylus Photo R1900, a $550, B-size (13″ by 19″) desktop printer with pigment-based inks, advanced paper-handling capabilities and productivity features aimed at serious amateurs and professional photographers. Unlike the pricier Stylus Photo R2400, which is best known for its black-and-white printing capabilities (and its voracious appetite for ink), the R1900 is [...]
